The TC Gemini travel to the west coast to face the Bay Breakers at Heart Health Park in Sacramento during Round 10 of the 2026 WER season!

Both the Gemini and the Breakers finish their 2026 regular seasons with this game, having previously met in Round 3 at TCO Stadium where the Gemini earned a big 42-10 victory at home to take a 2-1 lead in the all-time series. These two sides have been almost neck and neck for most of the 2026 WER season, and enter this game separated by just 3pts. The Banshees have the upper hand in 2nd place with a 7-2 record and are playing at home, while the Gemini are in 3rd with a 6-3 record but got the better of the Banshees in their first meeting this season, as already mentioned. The winner of this game will likely claim the 2nd place spot in the standings and with it, a spot in the 2026 Legacy Cup where they will face the defending champion Denver Onyx in Colorado on 8th August.

It was obvious that both sides were playing cautiously, knowing what is on the line and not wanting to give their opponents an opportunity. Unusually for WER, the first 10 minutes went by without a score but in the 14th minute, the Gemini opened the scoring through Sophie Pyrz, giving them a 0-5 lead in this crucial game. This would be the only score of the half for the Twin Cities, however. The Bay Breakers would cancel out Pyrz’s score just after the 20 minute mark, with Olivia Bernadel-Huey converting her own score to give the Breakers a 7-5 lead, before Roxelle Thomas extended that lead to 12-5 a few minutes later. Although the Gemini quickly rallied from this 2-score swing, the Breakers kept the scoreboard moving with a pair of successful penalties (rarely used in WER) from Bernadel-Huey right before the half, giving the hosts a commanding 18-5 lead at the break.

As with the first half, the second half began as a stalemate. Knowing that they could’ve afford to go further behind, the Gemini did a good job of stifling the Bay Breakers but with the clock not on their side, the hosts seems almost content to sit back and let the Gemini come to them, which they eventually did. Almost 20 minutes into the second half, the Gemini bagged a second score through Serena Liu to cut the deficit to 18-10, but a dagger from the Bay Breakers Ari Jurkowski just 2 minutes later cancelled this score out and with another conversion from Bernadel-Huey, the Gemini found themselves further behind than before Liu’s score, now trailing 25-10 with less than 20 minutes to go. At the 69 minute mark, WER top scorer Chloe Headland dotted down and the Canadian converted her own score to cut the lead to 25-17, but the TC Gemini were unable to shift the scoreboard any more, falling to the Bay Breakers in their final game of the season.

For the second year in a row, the Bay Breakers and TC Gemini split the regular season series but it’s the Breakers that take the spoils, improving to 8-2 and securing the 2nd spot to earn their first Legacy Cup appearance, where they will face the Denver Onyx on 8th August. The scoreline is a little deceptive here, with the Breakers seeming in control for the majority of the game. The TC Gemini finish their 2026 campaign in 3rd place with a strong 6-4 record, much improved from the 2025 campaign and fighting for a Legacy Cup spot for the entire season.
