The Chicago Tempest travel to Quincy, MA to face the Boston Banshees during Round 9 of the 2026 WER season!

This is the second meeting of the season between these sides, following a Round 2 clash at Benedictine University in Chicago. This first meeting was the first Chicago Tempest win in team history, grinding out a tough 36-32 victory and pulling one back against the Banshees to make it 1-2 in the all-time match up between these sides, in favour of Boston. Both already eliminated from Legacy Cup contention, this game in Rd 9 marked a ‘Battle of the Bottom’. Both desperate for a win, the Banshees and Tempest sat 5th & 6th in the standings respectively heading into this game, both tied on 7pts.

The Tempest got off to a great start, with Gracie Anderson crossing within a minute to open the scoring. Chicago kept this up through the first 40 but despite the Tempest leading 7-15 at the break, it would be the Banshees who squeaked out a 20-18 victory thanks to a 77th minute score from new pick up Kai Brandt-Templeton to even the 2026 series at 1-1 and take a 3-1 overall match-up lead over the Chicago Tempest to secure the 5th spot and improve to 2-7 with 1 game remaining in the regular season. The Chicago Tempest pick up a losing bonus point but fall to 1-8 through 9 games, and have one final chance to pick up a second victory this year, but must overcome the league-leading defending champions the Denver Onyx to get it.
