2021 – RD 13: LA Giltinis v Houston SaberCats
The LA Giltinis host the Houston SaberCats as the men from the Lone Star State travel to the pacific.
The travel may have taken it out of the ‘Cats, because this game was very much a one-way affair. A consolation try towards the end of the game was the only time that Houston got on the board and by that point, the Giltinis had already passed the half century.
The final score of 52-5 set a new MLR record for the largest winning margin in league history (47), just surpassing the previous record set by the Toronto Arrows against Seattle (45) set earlier in 2021. This record would stand until Round 11 of the 2022 MLR season, when the Austin Gilgronis would defeat the Dallas Jackals by a score of 3-57, a margin of victory of 54pts.
2021 – RD 7: LA Giltinis v Old Glory DC
The LA Giltinis host Old Glory DC in the second of two back-to-back games at LA Memorial Coliseum during Round 7 of Major League Rugby’s 2021 season.
OGDC would get on the board first with Jason Robertson slotting a penalty in the 5th minute, but LA would respond by scoring all 47 of their points unanswered between the 10th & 60th minutes, with DC picking up their 2 tries in quick succession in the 71st and 73rd minute. A final score of 47-17 saw DC limp away from LA, thoroughly beaten.
2021 – RD 7: San Diego Legion v New England Free Jacks
The San Diego Legion are billed as the ‘Home’ team against the Free Jacks in the first half of a double-header in LA.
The LA Memorial Coliseum hosted back-to-back Major League Rugby games in Round 7 of the 2021 season, with this game coming before the Giltinis face Old Glory DC.
New England cruised to an easy 17-33 victory after 3 tries before the 20 minute mark put the Legion on the back foot. All 17 of San Diego’s points came in the final 30 minutes of the game.


2021 – RD 6: LA Giltinis v San Diego Legion
The LA Giltinis host their California rivals, the San Diego Legion at the LA Memorial Coliseum.
The home side came out of the gates flying, and had secured the try BP by the 21st minute of the game. The Giltinis scored 3 tries within the first 10 minutes and were up 17-0 before the Legion really settled in to the game. The final score was 45-17 to LA.
2021 – RD 2: LA Giltinis v Seattle Seawolves
The Los Angeles Giltinis host the 2x Major League Rugby champion Seattle Seawolves at the LA Memorial Coliseum.
LA proved that they were a force to be reckoned with, steamrolling the Seawolves by a score of 57-26, scoring 9 tries including a hattrick from Harrison Goddard. This was the first hattrick in LA franchise history, and the 9th hattrick in MLR history!
Goddard’s was not the only hattrick of the game though. Seattle replacement hooke James Malcolm entered the game in the 53rd minute, and had scored 3 tries by the 62nd minute. This was the first hattrick in Seawolves franchise history, and the 10th in MLR history. with all 3 tries scored in a 9 minute period after Malcolm entered the game, this is the fastest hattrick in MLR history to date.
This was the 2nd time in the 2021 season that a team scored over 50pts in a game, and at the time 57pts was the highest score from a single team this MLR season.
2021 – RD 1: LA Giltinis v New England Free Jacks
The first Major League Rugby game in franchise history for the LA Giltinis saw them take on the Free Jacks at the gorgeous LA Memorial Coliseum.
South African born, Canadian international winger DTH van der Merwe wasted no time, scoring the Giltinis’ first ever try in the 5th minute, before following it up with a second 4 minutes later. These were also the first ever MLR points for Los Angeles. They emerged victorious with a score of 42-27, with a statement 6 try performance.
