League: Major League Rugby

Founded in 2017 with it’s inaugural season played in 2018, Major League Rugby (MLR) is the highest level of professional rugby in North America.

2019 RD 1: Austin Elite v Houston SaberCats

The first episode of the 2019 Battle of Texas saw the Houston SaberCats travel to Austin to take on the Elite.

Sam Windsor secured the win for Houston with a last minute penalty for Houston. Windsor scored all 21 SaberCats points, going 7/7 from the tee. This was the first time in Major League Rugby history that a single player scored 100% of a team’s points in a winning effort.

2019 RD 1: NOLA Gold v Toronto Arrows

The inaugural game of the 2019 Major League Rugby season saw the expansion Toronto Arrows travel to New Orleans to take on NOLA Gold at Gold Stadium.

This was also the first MLR game in franchise history for the Toronto Arrows, the first and (as of 2023) only MLR team in Canada.

2018 Championship Final: Glendale Raptors v Seattle Seawolves

The Seattle Seawolves meet the Glendale Raptors at Infinity Park for the inaugural MLR final. Seattle emerged victorious and as a result, became the first team to claim the MLR shield!

In this game, Raptors hooker Zach Fenoglio became the first player in MLR history to score multiple tries in a single playoff game.

2018 Semi-Final 2: Glendale Raptors v Utah Warriors

The second of the 2018 Semifinals hosted at Inifinity Park in Colorado. The at-home Glendale Raptors confortably defeated the Utah Warriors to book their spot against the Seattle Seawolves to decide who will lift the inaugural MLR Shield!

Despite being on the losing side, Utah Warriors fullback Don Pati set a new single-game MLR record in this game, racking up 187m gained with ball in hand! He surpassed the previous record of 179m set by teammate Paul Lasike earlier in the season.

2018 Semifinal 1: Seattle Seawolves v San Diego Legion

The first playoff game in Major League Rugby history saw the Seattle Seawolves clash with the San Diego Legion at a neutral venue, Infinity Park in Glendale. Infinity Park served as the venue for both of 2018’s MLR semifinals.
The Seattle Seawolves stamp their ticket to the 2018 Final with a convincing win over the No. 3 seeded San Diego Legion.

2018 RD 9: Utah Warriors v NOLA Gold

With a combined 89pts scored, this game was the highest scoring game of the 2018 season, and remained as one of the 5 highest scoring games in Major League Rugby history until late in the 2022 season.
