The Hounds are coming off a gutsy 18-20 road victory over a struggling NOLA Gold side, and will be wanting to cement their place at the top of the East. Both teams have a 5-1 record heading into this game, and have met 3 times in the past. The Legion hold a 2-1 series lead over the Hounds, but fell 22-16 in their last meeting in Round 16 of the 2024 season, when Luke Carty kicked 4 penalties for 12pts to secure the victory for Chicago at Seatgeek Stadium.

The Hounds even the series at 2-2 following an impressive 20-27 road victory to hand the Legion their first home defeat in 361 days! The Legion remain atop of the Western Conference due to Houston also losing, but the Chicago Hounds now boast the best record in the league so far, at 6-1!

The San Diego Legion remain the only undefeated side coming into Round 6, are fresh off a bye week, and looking to go 5-0. The Sharks started the season strong but are coming off two disappointing results and looking to bounce back. These sides have only met once prior to this game, with the Legion taking a 21-22 victory in a nailbiting game during Round 5 of the 2024 season in which Miami’s Felipe Etcheverry recorded 16pts.

The San Diego Legion return from their Eastern road trip with a pair of victories, and sit at the top of the league with a 3-0 record. Rugby FC LA are fresh off a bye week and are looking to spoil the party at Torero Stadium! These sides have only met twice in the past, both last season. The Legion hold a 2-0 series lead, with the most recent match up being a 19-27 bonus point win for the Legion in LA.

Rugby FC LA held a 10-14 lead at half time, but the Legion came out of the sheds firing, with captain Brad Wilkin scoring almost immediately to give the hosts the lead. LA hit back at their California rivals, with a Gonzalo Bertranou score under 5 minutes later to restore the 4pt gap. roughly 10 minutes later, however, the Legion were awarded a penalty try to swing the pendulum back over to the Legion and, to make matters worse for LA, Tim Anstee was shown a second yellow card, earning him a red card and RFCLA would be down to 14 men for 20 minutes, now trailing 24-21 entering the final quarter.

Ethan Grayson would try to extend that lead through the boot but was unsuccessful, however when LA forward Semi Kunatani was shown a yellow to further reduce them to 13 men, Shilo Klein was able to add another score for the Legion, now ahead by 10 with 15 minutes to play. LA would hit back through Ed Timpson to lock up the Try Bonus Point, but when Ryan James dotted it down for the Legion’s 5th of the game, it was just too much for LA. They attempted a last minute penalty to try and salvage a losing bonus point and come away from Torero with 2pts, but it wasn’t to be. The San Diego Legion move to 4-0 on the season, the only undefeated team remaining in MLR in 2025, and successfully defend the Cali Cup.

The Legion were eliminated by the Seawolves in the 2024 Western Conference Semifinals, while the Seawolves were defeated in the Championship game by the New England Free Jacks. Both teams will be looking to go a step further in 2025.

Returning to Torero Stadium for the first time since 2021, the San Diego Legion gave their fans something to cheer about in the first half, with 4 tries within 30 minutes to secure the Try Bonus Point, including a brace from winger Ryan James. The Legion were in complete control for the first 40, taking a half-time lead of 28-0 to the sheds. It looks like the 2nd half would continue much the same way, as Tomas Aoake added a 5th Legion try early in the 2nd frame, and Lincoln McClutchie was solid from the tee to take the San Diego lead to 35-0. It took until the 55 minute mark for the Seawolves to finally wake up, scoring their first try of the season through Jesse Mackail.

For the final 25 minutes, the Seattle Seawolves looked more like the team we all know. They clawed their way to a 2nd and 3rd try to at least make the scoreline look a little better, before Conor Tupai added another try for the Legion to put the nail in the coffin. The Seawolves didn’t give up, however, and following phase after phase of pick and go, Jesse Mackail scored his 2nd of the game in the 85th minute to salvage a losing bonus point for the Seawolves. Unfortunately for Seattle, it’s tough to win games when you only play 1 half. The San Diego Legion take this chapter of MLR’s oldest rivalry in convincing fashion.
