Samoan born New Zealand ex-player and coach Alama Ieremia served as the Head Coach of Anthem RC between 2024-2025, and Assistant coach for the USA Men’s National Team during the same period.
Ieremia had an impressive playing career through the 1990s and early 2000s, playing for both the Wellington Lions (1992-2000) as well as the Hurricanes (1996-2000) in the Super 12 (now Super Rugby). Ieremia then moved to Japan to play with the Suntory Goliath between 2001-2004, before beginning his coaching journey. At international level, Ieremia is capped for both Samoa and the New Zealand All Blacks, playing for his birth nation 5 times between 1992-1993, and for the All Blacks 40 times from 1994-2000, representing them at two Rugby World Cups in 1995 & 1999.
After finishing his playing career Ieremia stayed with the Suntory Goliath in Japan as an Assistant Coach between 2005-2007, before taking up the same role for the Hurricanes between 2009-2014. His 3rd assistant coach role was in the Samoan national team, before taking the reigns as the Head Coach of Samoa from 2015-2017. He served as the Head Coach of Auckland in the Mitre 10/NPC between 2018-2022, before returning to an Assistant Coach role with the USA National Team, a role which he occupied alongside his role as Head Coach of Anthem RC since their conception in 2024, a partnership between World Rugby, USA Rugby, and MLR. Ieremia continued to serve as Anthem RC Head Coach for the majority of the 2025 season, but stepped back from the role during Round 12 to focus on his national team duties. He recorded a 0-27 overall record with Anthem RC. In October 2025, USA Rugby announced that Ieremia had stepped down from his role as Assistant Coach with USA Rugby, and was succeeded by Agustin Cavalieri both for the national team, and as Head Coach of Anthem RC.
