Irish flanker Harry McNulty played in Major League Rugby during the 2021 season. He represented the LA Giltinis for his entire MLR career.
Born in Bahrain to Irish parents and raised between Bahrain, London, and the USA, Harry McNulty discovered rugby while at boarding school in Tipperary in Ireland. He played with Garryowen in the AIL before joining the Munster Academy in 2011 while at University in Limerick before transferring to UCD between 2015-2017. In his first year at UCD while on exchange in Australia, McNulty was a founding member of the Ireland Sevens programme, earning his debut during Ireland’s first competitive tournament in Bosnia in 2015. He was part of the Ireland Sevens squad that attempted to qualify for the 2016 Olympics in Rio, but was unsuccessful.
A Sevens veteran, McNulty played with UCD in the AIL in 2016 before returning to the Ireland Sevens programme for the 2017 Sevens Grand Prix series where he finished as Ireland’s leading try-scorer at the 2017 Moscow Sevens with six tries. He also represented Ireland at the 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens in San Francisco where Ireland finished 9th and was part of the Ireland squad at the 2019 Hong Kong Sevens qualifier, where Ireland won the tournament to advance to “core team” status for the 2019–20 World Rugby Sevens Series. Quickly rising through the Sevens world, McNulty and Ireland qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, which was delayed due to COVID-19.
In late 2020, McNulty signed with the LA Giltinis ahead of their inaugural season in 2021. He started 2 of his 3 appearances for LA and scored a try against the Toronto Arrows in New Orleans. He left the Gilitinis part-way through their 2021 Shield Winning season in order to return to the Ireland Sevens team for the re-scheduled Tokyo Olympics where they finished 6th. McNulty has continued to be a stalwart for the Ireland Sevens team since his lone season in MLR, representing them at a second Rugby World Cup Sevens in Cape Town in 2022, as well as a second Olympic Games in France in 2024. He has also captained the Kalinga Black Tigers in the Indian Rugby Premier League in 2025, and represented the Barbarians at the London City 7s in 2026.
He is the older brother of MLR Stalwart Sean McNulty.
