Australian-born front row Andrew Tuala played in Major League Rugby between 2022-2023. He represented the LA Giltinis (2022) and the Houston SaberCats (2023).
Born in Australia, Andrew Tuala is of Samoan heritage and went to high school at Mount Roskill Grammer in New Zealand. He developed in Australia’s National Rugby Championship (NRC), representing the Greater Sydney Rams, Melbourne Rising, and NSW Country Eagles between 2016-2019. Following his time in the NRC, Tuala signed with the NSW Waratahs in 2019, representing them in Super Rugby between 2019-2021.
Tuala signed with the LA Giltinis ahead of the 2022 Major League Rugby season, where he was a standout. He played both hooker and loosehead prop, scoring 5 tries in 14 games, starting 10 times and gaining over 400m as a front row while also completing over 90 boxes. He earned his test debut for Samoa during this offseason, playing in the 2022 Pacific Nations Cup against Tonga and Australia ‘A’.
Following the disqualification and subsequent folding of the Giltinis prior to the 2022 playoffs, Tuala was selected by the Dallas Jackals in the dispersal draft, but never signed. Instead, he chose Houston over Dallas and signed a short-term contract with the SaberCats for the 2023 season to replace Dean Muir who had returned to South Africa to welcome his first child. Tuala made an additional 3 appearances for the ‘Cats, taking his career total to 17.
