League: Major League Rugby

Founded in 2017 with it’s inaugural season played in 2018, Major League Rugby (MLR) is the highest level of professional rugby in North America.

Agustin Cavalieri

Argentinian former player Agustin Cavalieri has coached in Major League Rugby since 2023. He has been a member of the Dallas Jackals (2023-2024) and Anthem RC (2025-2026) coaching teams, as well as USA Rugby.

As a player, Cavalieri represented Argentina’s age grade sides up to Los Pumitas U21s before heading to Europe in 2003, representing Arras and Limoges for a year before heading to Italy where he spent the majority of his career. He primarily represented Petrarca Padova and Calvisano but also had stints with L’Aquila and Prato and even represented the Italy ‘A’ side. Cavalieri was player-coach with Calvisano when he called time on his playing career in 2019.

Cavalieri stepped into the Head Coach role with the Dallas Jackals ahead of the 2023 season having previously served as Forwards Coach for the Italian U20 side. He steered the Jackals for two seasons from 2023-2024, turning what had been a 0-16 team in 2022 into a playoff contender and conference finalist in 2024 and recording the first win in franchise history. Despite an overall record of 8-24 with the Jackals, they were arguably one of the most entertaining teams to watch and would have only continued to improve had they not withdrawn from MLR. Following this withdrawal, Agustin Cavalieri took up an Assistant coach role with the newly established MLR, USA Rugby, and World Rugby franchise, Anthem RC under Alama Ieremia.

Cavalieri served as Assistant Coach during from Anthem’s inaugural season in 2024, through to Round 12 of the 2025 season when Ieremia stepped back to focus on his other role of USA Men’s Assistant Coach. Cavalieri took over as Head Coach from Round 13 of the 2025 season, although could not prevent the team recording their 2nd 0-16 season in a row in 2025. In October 2025, USA Rugby announced that Alama Ieremia had stepped down from his roles with both USA Rugby and Anthem RC, and Agustin Cavalieri had joined the national Men’s team coaching setup as Assistant Coach (Forwards & Breakdown) alongside his role as Anthem RC Head Coach, which he will continue with into the 2026 season.

Head Coach Record:

Overall: 8-29
Anthem RC: 0-5
Dallas Jackals: 8-24

Alama Ieremia

Samoan born New Zealand ex-player and coach Alama Ieremia served as the Head Coach of Anthem RC between 2024-2025, and Assistant coach for the USA Men’s National Team during the same period.

Ieremia had an impressive playing career through the 1990s and early 2000s, playing for both the Wellington Lions (1992-2000) as well as the Hurricanes (1996-2000) in the Super 12 (now Super Rugby). Ieremia then moved to Japan to play with the Suntory Goliath between 2001-2004, before beginning his coaching journey. At international level, Ieremia is capped for both Samoa and the New Zealand All Blacks, playing for his birth nation 5 times between 1992-1993, and for the All Blacks 40 times from 1994-2000, representing them at two Rugby World Cups in 1995 & 1999.

After finishing his playing career Ieremia stayed with the Suntory Goliath in Japan as an Assistant Coach between 2005-2007, before taking up the same role for the Hurricanes between 2009-2014. His 3rd assistant coach role was in the Samoan national team, before taking the reigns as the Head Coach of Samoa from 2015-2017. He served as the Head Coach of Auckland in the Mitre 10/NPC between 2018-2022, before returning to an Assistant Coach role with the USA National Team, a role which he occupied alongside his role as Head Coach of Anthem RC since their conception in 2024, a partnership between World Rugby, USA Rugby, and MLR. Ieremia continued to serve as Anthem RC Head Coach for the majority of the 2025 season, but stepped back from the role during Round 12 to focus on his national team duties. He recorded a 0-27 overall record with Anthem RC. In October 2025, USA Rugby announced that Ieremia had stepped down from his role as Assistant Coach with USA Rugby, and was succeeded by Agustin Cavalieri both for the national team, and as Head Coach of Anthem RC.

2024 – RD 18: San Diego Legion v Seattle Seawolves

The final game of the 2024 regular season is another chapter of the most storied rivalry in MLR, as the Seattle Seawolves travel down the west coast to San Diego to face the Legion at Snapdragon Stadium in what is a preview of the MLR QF matchup as Seattle (#2) will host San Diego (#3) in the playoffs.

It was the San Diego Legion who took this chapter of MLR’s most historic rivalry, with a 45-33 comeback victory after trailing 3-21 after half an hour. The Legion improve to the same record as Seattle, 11-5 on the season but finish 2pts behind the Seawolves in the standings. A step back from their MLR-best 15-1 season in 2023, but still a very good record for both teams who comfortable qualify for the post-season once again.

2024 – RD 18: Houston SaberCats v Dallas Jackals

The League-leading Houston SaberCats wrap up their regular season by hosting their Texas rivals, the Dallas Jackals at SaberCats Stadium. This game would serve as a preview of the Western Conference Semi-Final, as Houston (#1) was already locked in to play Dallas (#4) in a playoff Texas Tussle!

The hosts burst out of the gates, with Rob Cobb scoring just minutes in and, despite an early yellow card to Captain Johan Momsen, maintained a 7-0 lead until the 26th minute when Justin Basson was able to extend it. Houston added two more before the HT whistle to secure the try BP and looked like they would take a 26-0 lead into the sheds before Dallas hit back with a 7-pointer from Ben Fry to halt the SaberCats momentum.

Fry’s try may have spurred the Jackals on, as the 2nd half was dominated by the guests, who pulled it back to 26-21 thanks to tries from Tomas Cubilla & Dewald Kotze, before a 77th minute Tomy Malanos try tied things up at 26-26, and Juan-Dee Oliver nailed the conversion to give Dallas a slim lead with minutes to go. Unfortuntely, the Jackals are the masters of the losing BP in 2024, and with the clock deep in the red, conceded a penalty with which Davy Coetzer made no mistake. these 3pts were the only score of the half for Houston to secure a 29-28 win and end their regular season on a high.

Houston finish with a 14-2 record and 67pts, 10pts ahead of 2nd places Seattle in the West, and top of the entire MLR. As mentioned, they are already locked in to play the Jackals again in the Quarter-Finals, who fell to 6-10 on the season following this loss. The Jackals have picked up NINE losing bonus points this season, tied with the Utah Warriors for a single-season MLR record.

2024 – RD 18: Chicago Hounds v Miami Sharks

The Chicago Hounds finish their 2024 Regular Season by hosting the Miami Sharks at Seatgeek Stadium during the Hounds’ ‘Dawg Town’ Block Party.

The Hounds emerged as 38-26 victors to lock in the 3rd seed in the Eastern Conference. Dylan Fawsitt scored a brace to take his 2024 total up to 12 tries, and the Hounds are now locked in to playing the NOLA Gold in the 2024 QFs.

The Miami Sharks’ inaugural season comes to an end, having failed to qualify for the playoffs but enjoyed an impressive first year ending with a 6-10 record including a shock victory over the reigning champion Free Jacks.

2024 – RD 18: New England Free Jacks v Anthem RC

The New England Free Jacks wrap up their 2024 regualr season by hosting Anthem RC at Veteran’s Memorial Stadium, who they also played in their first game of the season.

The hosts emerged as comfortable 40-7 victors to secure the top seed in the Eastern Conference with a record of 11-5, and will now face Old Glory DC in the MLR quaterfinals.

Anthem RC finish their 2024 season without a win, recording the 3rd 0-16 season in league history but recording the most point of any of those winless seasons. The hastily put together partnership between MLR, USA Rugby, and World Rugbywill now have a full off-season to prepare for their 2025 campaign, where they will look to build on some admirable performances and secure their first victory.

2024 – RD 18: Utah Warriors v Rugby FC LA

The Utah Warriors wrap up their 2024 season by hosting Rugby FC LA at America First Field.

Rugby FC LA, also wrapping up their 2024 and inaugural season, got to experience a Utah Warriors record attendance as 10,900 people attended WarriorsFest. Unfortunately for their fans, the Warriors fell 24-31 to LA, securing 2 BPs in the process up falling to 5-11 on the season.

LA end their first season as RFCLA on a high note, a bonus point victory to improve to 5-10-1 on the 2024 season, also claiming a season sweep over the Warriors.

2024 – RD 17: San Diego Legion v Houston SaberCats

The San Diego Legion host the Houston SaberCats in their last home game of the 2024 season at Snapdragon Stadium.

The Houston SaberCats are already locked in to the #1 seed in the West, and had a decent amount of change in their lineup so may have been trying some things out ahead of the playoffs. The San Diego Legion emerged as 37-24 victors, handing the SaberCats just their 2nd loss of the 2024 season and preserving their MLR-record 15-1 season set last year in 2023.
