WER 2025 – RD 13: Bay Breakers v Denver Onyx

The Bay Breakers host the Denver Onyx in the final game of the Inaugural Women’s Elite Rugby regular season!

The Denver Onyx have long since clinched their spot in the first ever WER Legacy Cup and are sat 1st in the league with a dominant 8-1 record heading into this game. For the Bay Breakers though, it is everything to play for. Thanks to a New York Exiles bonus point victory over the Chicago Tempest earlier today, the Exiles sit in 2nd place in the standings, 1pt ahead of the Bay Breakers and currently in that second Legacy Cup spot. 1 point would move the Breakers into a tiebreaker with the New York Exiles but, as the Breakers held a 2-0 record against the Exiles in 2025, they would clinch a Legacy Cup spot. The last time these teams met was the first ever game for both of these sides. The Denver Onyx took a commanding 63-7 victory back in Round 2.

The Onyx wasted no time opening the scoring, with Saher Hamdan crossing after only 6 minutes, followed by the first of Onyx Captain Rachel Johnson’s two tries 12 minutes later. Mona Lisa Tupou would get the Breakers on the board just after the half-hour mark, before Johnson added her 2nd for the Onyx just before the break, giving the Onyx a 7-21 lead at half time. Denver were not happy to just sit back on their lead however. They added a 4th, bonus point try early in the 2nd half, and a 5th shortly after through Kapoina Bailey. The Breakers would attempt a comeback late in the game, with a pair of tries from Canadian Sevens player Eden Kilgour in the 72nd and 75th minutes to bring the score to 17-33, before a last minute Gianna Solomon score for the Onyx put the game to bed.

The Denver Onyx take a dominant 17-40 victory on the road and finish their first season with a 9-1 record and 46 of a possible 50pts. The Bay Breakers, having scored only 3 tries, fail to pick up a point in this game and as such, miss out on the chance to play for the Legacy Cup by a single point. The Denver Onyx will face the New York Exiles in the first ever WER Legacy Cup!

WER 2025 – RD 12: Bay Breakers v Chicago Tempest

The Chicago Tempest travel to California to face the Bay Breakers in Round 12 of the Women’s Elite Rugby Inaurugal Season!

The 3rd placed Bay Breakers enter this game on a 2-match win streak after sweeping the east coast against the New York Exiles and Boston Banshees, and look to continue that momentum with a victory over the Tempest, who sit bottom of the league. Chicago are still looking for their first win of the season, and are coming off of their closest game so far, a 12-10 defeat against the TC Gemini. These teams have met once in the past, with the Bay Breakers recording a huge 17-51 victory in Chicago back in Round 7.

In just her 3rd game of the season, Canadian Sevens player Eden Kilgour recorded her first career WER hat trick in a big 45-21 Breakers victory. This takes Kilgour up to 5 tries in 3 games for the Bay Breakers.

WER 2025 – Round 10: Bay Breakers v New York Exiles

The New York Exiles travel to California to face the Bay Breakers in Round 10 of WER’s inaugural season!

Sat 3rd in the table, the Exiles are looking to build on a pair of victories over the TC Gemini in their last two games, and hope to extend a 3-game win streak. The hosting Bay Breakers are sat 4th in the table just 5pts behind the Exiles and will hope to draw level with a big win here. They are looking to get back in the win column after a heavy 28-49 home loss to the Boston Banshees in Round 8, and had a bye last week to recover.

These teams have met once in the past, when the Breakers took a 19-39 victory on the road back in Round 4.

Bay Breakers’ Naomi Carrillo recorded her first WER hat trick in this game as the Breakers took a 38-26 victory, but the Exiles stay ahead in the table by virtue of the try bonus point they picked up in this clash.

WER 2025 – RD 8: Bay Breakers v Boston Banshees

It’s the Battle of the B’s as the Bay Breakers host the Boston Banshees in Lodi, CA during Round 8 of the inaugural season of Women’s Elite Rugby!

The travelling Boston Banshees are looking to snap a 2-game skid that includes a hard fought 7-25 defeat to the powerhouse Denver Onyx last week, while the Bay Breakers are back home after 3 games on the road, and looking to build on their big win over the Tempest in Round 7. This marks the first meeting between these two sides in Women’s Elite Rugby history.

WER 2025 – RD 3: Bay Breakers v TC Gemini
