Fijian prop Samu Tawake played in Major League Rugby during the 2021 season. He represented the Rugby New York Ironworkers for his entire MLR career.

Born in Levuka on the island of Ovalau in Fiji, Samu Tawake attended Marist Brothers High School in the Fijian Capital of Suva. He represented the Fijian U20s side in 2014, before heading to New Zealand where he played in the National Provincial Championship, representing Canterbury in 2018, and the Manawatu Turbos in 2019. Tawake earned his test debut for Fiji in the 2020 Autumn Nations Cup before heading to the USA and joining Rugby New York for their 2021 season. 

In his debut season in North America, Tawake appeared in 16 of New York’s 17 games that season, starting 10 times including their Semifinal clash with Rugby ATL where they fell 10-9. In total, Tawake scored 4 tries and ganed over 275m in possession as a front row, also completing 120 tackles on the season. Following his lone season in MLR, he returned to Fiji to join with the Fijian Drua in Super Rugby. He has since earned over 50 Super Rugby appearances for the Drua, and represented Fiji at the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France.
