Argentinian lock Lucas Albornoz played in Major League Rugby during the 2021 season. He represented the Houston SaberCats for his entire MLR career.

Although raised in Argentina to Argentinian parents, Lucas Albornoz was born in Vancouver, BC while his father Eric was playing rugby there. He began playing rugby in Argentina and developed through the los Pumitas U18 & U19 age grade sides before heading to Canada in 2015 to join the Castaway Wanderers in BC. Having been born in Canada, Albornoz was eligible to represent them at test level and was given the opportunity in 2017, earning his debut against the USA in the 2017 Americas Rugby Championship.

In 2018, Albornoz headed to New Zealand and spent a season playing with Northland in the Mitre 10 Cup, before returning to Canada to continue playing his club rugby in the BC Men’s Premier Division. In 2021, Albornoz entered Major league Rugby with the Houston Sabercats, where he started 8 of his 10 appearances in Texas, gaining over 150m in possession. Following the MLR season, he earned his 2nd and most recent test cap for Canada, against Wales in July 2021.

Lucas Albornoz was playing with Burnaby Lake in the BC Men’s Premier Division in 2024.
