South African fullback Carl Meyer played in Major League Rugby between 2020-2022. He represented the NOLA Gold for his entire MLR career.

Meyer represented the Maritzberg College first team in his youth, and played with the Sharks academy & U19 side between 2010-11. He represented the University of Kwa-Zulu in the Varsity Cup before moving to Wales to play in the Welsh Principality Premiership from 2013-15. Meyer then signed with the Dragons and played in the PRO14 between 2015-2018.

Meyer joined the NOLA Gold in Major League Rugby ahead of the 2020 season, and started all 5 games before the season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He scored 2 tries and 48pts in those 5 games, good enough for 4th in MLR at the point that the season was cancelled. He also amassed a League-leading 488m gained with ball in hand. He returned with the Gold for the 2021 season, doubling the number of starts and recording a personal best 69pts that season, and another personal best of 722m gained. In total, Meyer scored 6 tries (2 each season) and 178pts in 22 games (all starts) across 3 seasons with the NOLA Gold.

The following year, Meyer remained in the United States but switched his focus to Football. He played the Jacksonville Sharks of the Indoor Football League in 2023, and was drafted into the CFL by the BC Lions on 30th April 2024, following the path of Tadhg Leader, who was once a punter for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the CFL and now runs a kicking school for aspiring gridiron football punters.
