South African centre/fly-half Robbie Petzer played in major league Rugby between 2019-2021. He represented the Glendale/Colorado Raptors (2019-2020), and Rugby ATL (2021).
Petzer joined the Glendale Raptors ahead of the 2019 season, and scored 5 tries and 85pts in his first season in North America, finishing 7th league-wide in scoring. This total included a remarkable 34pt game in a 64-22 victory over the Utah Warriors. Through the 2024 season, this remains the highest single-game points total by a player in MLR history. The Raptors finished as runners-up in the 2019 season after falling to the Seattle Seawolves in the Championship Final.
Following the withdrawal of the Raptors from MLR after the truncated 2020 season, Petzer signed for Rugby ATL for the 2021 season where they made it all the way to the MLR Championship Final where they fell to the LA Giltinis. Petzer would not return for the 2022 season in MLR, instead signing with the Pumas back in his native South Africa.
