English-born South African fly-half Tim Swiel played in Major League Rugby during the 2025 season. He represented the Chicago Hounds for his entire MLR career.

Born in the south-west of England, Swiel attended Bishops in Cape Town, South Africa, playing for their first team side and representing the Western Province at the famous Craven Week in 2011. He played with the Western Province U21 side between 2012-2013, before earning his senior side debut against the Boland Cavaliers in the 2013 Vodacom Cup. Both Swiel’s Vodacom Cup debut, and Currie Cup debut against the Golden Lions, ended as draws. Swiel joined the Sharks in 2014 and represented them in Super Rugby and the Currie Cup, before signing with Harlequins in the English Premiership in 2014 as short-term injury cover.

Swiel impressed on his loan deal, and would return for Harlequins for the 2015/16 Premiership season, where he played for a few years, earning almost 50 Premiership appearances and scoring over 200pts. He signed with the Newcastle Falcons in 2018 and played with them for two seasons until 2020, when he headed back to South Africa to play with the Stormers in the URC, as well as back with the Western Province in the Currie Cup. Following his second stint in South Africa, Swiel signed with the Toyota Shokki in the Japanese League One – Division 2, before returning to the URC with Edinburgh in 2023 as injury cover. He joined Saracens for the 2023/24 Premiership season, and on 29th October 2024, the Chicago Hounds announced that they had signed Tim Swiel for their 2025 MLR season, adding a solid 10 with ample experience.
