Tongan-raised US-eligible centre Simi Moala played in Major League Rugby between 2020-2024. He represented Old Glory DC (2020-2022, 2024) and the Houston SaberCats (2024).
Moala played rugby through high school and at club level in Tonga. From 2015-2020 he attended Southern Virginia University, playing football in the fall and rugby with Washington & Lee in the spring. SVU did not have a rugby team until Moala’s senior year, during which he played.
Moala signed with Old Glory DC ahead of the 2021 MLR season and played with the Flags between 2021-2022, earning 3 caps in both seasons for 6 appearances in total (1 start). In 2023, Moala played with Rugby HTX, the Houston SaberCats’ academy side from which the ‘Cats signed him, although he did not see MLR action. In the summer he played with the Rocky Mountain Experts in the Premier Rugby Sevens competition, as well as NAV 7s at Rugbytown Sevens and the USA Club Sevens Nationals.
On 29th January 2024, Old Glory DC included Simi Moala in their greater training squad for their 2024 MLR campaign, marking his return to the Flags.
