Canada-eligible Northern Irish Fly-Half Peter Nelson played in Major League Rugby between 2023-2024. He has represented the Toronto Arrows for his entire MLR career.
Born and Raised in Dungannon, Northern Ireland, Nelson represented Ireland at both U18 & U20 levels as well as Ulster between 2011-2019. He is eligible to play for Canada through his Vancouver-born grandmother and earned his international debut in July 2019 against the United States and has earned 17 caps to date. He was supposed to play with the Seattle Seawolves in the 2020 season, but the global COVID-19 Pandemic shut the season down before he could appear. He instead moved to France to play with Stade Aurillac in the Pro D2 between 2021-2023. The Toronto Arrows announced Nelson’s signing in April 2023, part way through that year’s MLR season.
In his debut season in North America, Nelson earned 8 caps for the Arrows (7 starts) and scored 10pts from the tee (4/5, 80.00%). On 27th October 2023, the Arrows announced the return of Peter Nelson for the 2024 MLR season.
