Canadian lock/back row Kyle Baillie player in Major League Rugby between 2019-2024. He represented the NOLA Gold (2019-2021), the Toronto Arrows (2022), Old Glory DC (2023) and the New England Free Jacks (2024).
Born in Alberta and raised on Prince Edward Island, Baillie started his professional career in 2015 for the Eastern Suburbs in Australia’s Shute Shield competition before playing with the Ohio Aviators in the short-lived PRO Rugby competition in 2016. Baillie headed to the UK following his year with Ohio, earning a trial with Saracens in the English Premiership before a dislocated shoulder prevented a long term contract, and played with London Scottish in the English Championship for the 2017/18 season. He earned his international debut for Canada in February 2016, earning over 30 caps since then, including most recently during Canada’s 2-game tour of Spain in November 2023, against Spain and Brazil.
He returned to North American professional rugby in 2019, signing with the NOLA Gold for that year’s MLR season. He played with the Gold for 3 MLR seasons, earning 20 caps (all starts) and captaining the team 12 times between 2020-2021. On October 18th 2021, the NOLA Gold traded Baillie to the Toronto Arrows in exchange for for Salary Cap Considerations in 2022 (unknown). Baillie earned a further 10 caps with Toronto in 2022 (7 starts), scoring 1 try.
On March 22nd 2023, before appearing in any games in 2023, Baillie was traded by the Toronto Arrows to Old Glory DC in exchange for Salary Cap Considerations in 2024 (unknown). The then 32-yo Baillie appeared in 9 games for the Flags in the 2023 season (all starts), scoring 2 tries as DC earned their first ever post-season appearance, making it all the way to the Eastern Conference Final before falling 25-7 to eventual champions, the New England Free Jacks. On 3rd November 2023, the Free Jacks announced that they had signed Baillie ahead of the 2024 MLR season. He appeared in a career-high 16 games in 2024, including 11 starts (also a career high), completing over 130 tackles as the Free Jacks entered the post season as the top of the Eastern Conference. The Free Jacks defeated Old Glory DC and the Chicago Hounds to earn a spot in their 2nd final in two years, and defeated the Seattle Seawolves 11-20 in the final to lift the 2024 Shield in a game that Baillie started. For his 2024 performance, Baillie was selected as a part of the All-MLR Second XV.
