US-eligible through his grandfather (also a capped USA Eagle), Australian lock Greg Peterson played in Major League Rugby during the 2024 season. He represented the San Diego Legion for his entire MLR career.

Born and raised in Sydney, Peterson represented the Wallabies U20s at the 2011 IRB Junior World Championships, and earned a Super Rugby debut with the Waratahs in 2012 while also playing with the Manly Marlins in Australia’s Shute Shield competition. He earned his international debut for the USA in November 2014 against Romania and represented the US 42 times between 2014-2023, including at the 2015 Rugby World Cup in England, and the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan. Back at club level, Peterson played with the Leicester Tigers in the English Premiership during the 2014/15 season, before moving to the Glasgow Warriors in the PRO 14 (now the URC) whom he represented from 2015-2018. He had a brief stint with Bordeaux in the French Top 14, before returning to the English Premiership with Newcastle, where he played between 2019-2023. Peterson’s move stateside comes after a stint as injury cover at Glasgow Warriors.

Greg Peterson’s signing was announced by the San Diego Legion on 12th December 2023, ahead of the 2024 MLR season. He earned 13 appearances that season, captaining the Legion a number of times and completing just shy of 150 tackles as the Legion qualified for the post-season with an 11-5 record, but fell to rivals Seattle Seawolves in the Western Conference Semifinals. Peterson was named to the All-MLR Honorable Mention XV for his performance during the 2024 season.
